COMPARISON
candy ai vs ourdream ai
Two of the more talked-about AI companion platforms right now. Different approaches, different user bases, and I've been researching both at the same time.
Candy AI
OurDream AI
I’m reviewing both of these platforms for full writeups, which means I’ve been reading about them simultaneously for the past few weeks. That parallel research makes a comparison natural. This isn’t a verdict piece — both are still coming-soon on ZeBanana — but it’s a useful map of the differences I’m tracking.
The core difference
Candy AI is the more polished, more marketed product. The onboarding is slicker, the interface is cleaner, the free tier is designed as a showcase. OurDream AI feels scrappier — less polish on the surface, but based on what I’ve read, potentially more flexibility underneath.
Candy AI is optimizing for accessibility: you should be able to land on the site, build a character in ten minutes, and understand what you’re getting. OurDream AI seems to be optimizing for depth — more customization options, steeper learning curve.
What I’ve read about each
Candy AI: The features are broad — chat, voice messages, AI image generation, all in one product. According to most reviews I read, the voice feature is the weakest element. The chat quality is well-regarded for the price, and the image generation is serviceable. The main complaint pattern is memory degradation over long-term use — characters drifting from their initial configuration.
OurDream AI: A smaller user base means less information in the wild. What I’ve found suggests the platform skews toward users who know what they want. Less hand-holding in the character creation flow. Some early users describe the conversation quality as strong but unpredictable — high ceiling, inconsistent floor.
Pricing (what I’ve found)
Both platforms sit in the $13–20/month range for full access, based on multiple sources. I have higher confidence on Candy AI’s pricing — it comes up consistently. OurDream’s pricing I have less confidence in and I’m still trying to verify the exact numbers before the full review.
Privacy
I haven’t done the ToS audit on either one yet. That audit is a prerequisite before I publish the full individual reviews. Both are cloud-based and both almost certainly retain conversation data — this is the default for the category — but I won’t make specific claims until I’ve read the actual documents.
Which way am I leaning?
I’m not calling a winner here because I haven’t spent enough time with either to make a defensible call. What I can say: they’re going after different users. If you want a polished, out-of-the-box experience with a full feature set, Candy AI has the track record. If you’re comfortable with a less guided product that might have more ceiling, OurDream is worth a look.
The full reviews are both scheduled for June 2026. Come back then for the actual verdict.
